You have an amazing series idea, you have the first season mapped out in your head, you have your pilot ready to go - and then an exec asks you for your series bible. This is a roadblock for many writers because there is no set template for what a bible looks like! And while there are many styles of bibles, all must still contain the same core elements or they are considered incomplete. Roadmap is happy to bring in Charlotte Johnson to teach a class all about how to create your own series bible!

In this five-week course, Charlotte will break down examples of existing series bibles and walk you through the essential elements of each to help guide you in creating a bible for your own series!

This 5 Week Class Will Cover: 

  • The core elements of a series bible 
  • How to format and present your bible 
  • Customizing your bible for different platforms 
  • Feedback on your bible 

 

Week One - Introduction to Bibles

  • Instructor will describe what a Bible is, how it’s used, and the main sections that usually make up a Bible document.
  • Instructor will discuss examples of Bibles that were sent out, and talk about the difference between Bibles from years ago vs. contemporary Bibles.
  • Instructor will outline the first sections of a Bible: Introduction, Logline, Personal Connection/Based on.

Week Two - World/Setting, Characters, Tone & Theme

  • Instructor will outline the new sections: World/Setting, Characters, Tone, and Theme, and give examples of what these sections look like.
  • Instructor will give the assignment for the following week

Week Three - Pilot Synopsis

NBC's Perfect Harmony

Charlotte Austin Johnson was most recently a Staff Writer on the NBC sitcom PERFECT HARMONY. Previously she was a Script Coordinator on the CBS show LIFE IN PIECES and worked in development at the media company Refinery29. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a double-major in Psychology and Film, and a concentration in Theater. In 2015, she was the recipient of the Studio North grant for filmmaking. The hardest thing she’s ever had to accept about herself is she would make a fantastic PE teacher.
