WEEK #1 - INTRODUCTION AND SCRIPT FEEDBACK

  • Mentor will have read each writer’s full script prior to Meeting #1.
  • Writers will introduce themselves and their projects.
  • Mentor will give each writer approx. 20 minutes of feedback on their submitted script.
  • Mentor will lecture re loglines, bios and pitching and explain the homework.  
  • Live Q&A - come with questions!
     

WEEK #2 - PITCH ROUNDTABLE

Summary
  • Mentor will give each writer feedback on the homework.  
  • Mentor will open the floor for a group discussion of the homework.
  • Mentor will give general screenwriting advice and speak to the development process.
  • Mentor will host a pitch roundtable where each writer is given 10-12 minutes (time may vary) to practice their pitch and receive feedback from Mentor and the group.
  • Live Q&A - come with questions!
     

Week #3: Final Script Review

Your mentor will read another full script prior to the session—it's your choice to get a second round of notes on your script to really make it shine or work on an entirely different script altogether! Following 20-25 min. of feedback for each writer, your mentor will open the floor to group discussion of the revised scripts, then open it up to live Q&A so come with questions!

Week #4: Next Steps Clinic & Pitch Roundtable

Your mentor will review a one-pager of your bio, loglines, any traction, and questions about where you're at and what you should focus on next when it comes to your screenwriting career. Get actionable career advice on what your next steps should be, plus you'll have the opportunity to get final thoughts on your reworked verbal pitch. This is your last chance for live Q&A, so come with questions!

More about Ryan Stayton

Ryan has worked in film and TV development since 2013. He is currently the Head of Development at Hivemind (THE WITCHER, BEST MAN FINAL CHAPTERS, THE EXPANSE, SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK), where he’s helped develop projects sold to Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Paramount and FX. Previously, he was a creative executive for The Sean Daniel Company and Valiant Entertainment (BLOODSHOT). Ryan also worked on the development of two million-dollar spec sales (SECTION 6 and WINTER’S KNIGHT). He earned an MFA in Creative Writing from American University.
