More about Jess Smith

Jess Smith is a seasoned producer specializing in film, television, and audio. In her most recent role as the Director of Development for Nickelodeon/ Awesomeness Live Action Studio, she spearheaded the development process for live-action feature films. Among her notable achievements, Jess successfully developed and executive produced FANTASY FOOTBALL in collaboration with SpringHill and Genius Entertainment, partnered with EA Games and the NFL, now available on Paramount +. In addition, she managed development for a robust slate including a film based on DOUBLE DARE starring Tiffany Haddish and a movie sequel to TRUE JACKSON VP with Keke Palmer reprising her memorable role.

Prior to her role at Nickelodeon/Awesomeness, Jess served as an Agent in the Independent Film Group at United Talent Agency. In this capacity, she played a pivotal role in packaging and sales. She sourced financing and assembled cast and crew elements for independent films, including notable titles such as WINNER (W/D Susanna Fogel) and PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (W/D Emerald Fennell) among many others.

Before joining UTA as an Agent, Jess contributed to the success of Roadside Attractions, an Independent Film Distributor as Manager of co-productions and development for film and television. During her time there, they released 35 films including MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, HELLO, MY NAME IS DORIS, and LADY MACBETH. She played a key role in creating television and films based on the company's library and original ideas, with projects selling to BBC America, FX, Sony, and independent financing reaching a global audience.

Jess' journey in the entertainment industry began in production, where she gained experience in independent films, television, commercials, and music videos. She started as a Production Assistant on TNT’s LEVERAGE, providing her with valuable insights into the intricacies of producing a television season shot on location in Portland.

Driven by her determination to develop compelling stories, Jess made the move to Los Angeles, working for Paradigm Talent Agency in the Motion Picture Lit department. Her passion for aligning with a company that shared her values and creative interests led her to Participant Media, a Financier and Production Company renowned for producing films and documentaries addressing social issues. Notable projects during her tenure included CONTAGION, BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL, and LINCOLN.

Raised in Bala Cynwyd and Gladwyne, PA, Jess holds a bachelor’s degree in film studies from Emory University. Currently residing in Los Angeles, Jess continues to make a mark in the entertainment industry through her passion for advocacy, storytelling, and creative production.

Cancellation Policy: You may cancel your registration for a refund or Roadmap gift card if you have not yet submitted your material for review. However, once your material has been received by Roadmap, your registration cannot be canceled. Having revised material or a desire to retroactively apply a discount or gift card code are not grounds for cancellation, refunds, or gift card credit. Once your material has been submitted, the only acceptable grounds for cancellation and a refund or gift card credit is an unforeseen, ongoing emergency on the part of either the writer or the exec resulting in more than 6 weeks without any scheduling update from the exec via direct contact or Roadmap, or a sudden change in the exec's ongoing availability. In the instance of an irreconcilable scheduling issue, the writer may still receive a written feedback report from the exec. In this case, the writer is not entitled to a refund or gift card credit as the exec has read the submitted material and provided written feedback in lieu of the call.
