Roadmap Writers is an education and training platform for Career Writers ready to make writing a career and looking for a guided path to success. Our programs are hosted by working industry professionals and are designed to empower writers with actionable tools and insights to elevate their craft and cultivate relationships with industry execs. Since 2016, we have helped more than 125 screenwriters sign to representation and countless others get staffed, optioned, or sell their script.
Now, we’re bringing this same dedication and continuity to the publishing world with Roadmap Authors — offering a tiered Career Authors Program modeled after our wildly successful program for screenwriters full of opportunities to train with and learn from book editors and agents, as well as à la carte opportunities. Roadmap is here to advocate for writers of all kinds and help you achieve your career goals.
We focus on quality of education rather than quantity of numbers in our programming. We pride ourselves on getting to know each writer individually and doing our best to develop programming that will cater to their individual needs. Because it takes so much investment, time, and care to champion and launch a writer’s professional career, we focus our work on Career Writers over hobbyists. Roadmap is the only writing organization that has a fully guided step-by-step program that will help you build an incredibly strong foundation for lasting career success. Each program is taught by passionate working editors, agents, and other execs with a proven track record.
This month long program includes a Query Letter Bootcamp, to help you craft a new query letter or polish the one you already have.
Other program highlights include our Synopsis Clinic, designed to address the uses and identify the three basic forms of a book synopsis.
Additionally, you'll meet seasoned professionals from the publishing world in a roundtable setting in our Five Minutes of Fame session. This is your chance to share who you are as an author and pitch the story you've written.
Authors participate in four private roundtables with book agents and editors.
Each roundtable begins with a 20-minute “insider” talk about various aspects of the publishing industry. This could include how your host helped a writer reach success, valuable craft tips based on what they’ve seen work, and other insights the exec is excited to share.
Each author will then have a 20-minute one-on-one conversation with the exec. Pitch your manuscripts, test out ideas, and get feedback!
A Top Tier author is “on the verge” with polished manuscripts ready to pitch.
Prior to each session, the exec will read the first 15 pages of a manuscript of your choice. You'll then have 5x 20-minute general meetings with different execs throughout the month in a roundtable setting.
Pitch your projects, get feedback, and learn from listening and watching others. Establish a rapport with publishing professionals and find out what they think of your work!
Our instructors are all working executives and industry professionals from the publishing and literary world. By learning from working execs, you are able to benefit from their real-world, hands-on experience and knowledge of the current marketplace. We have relationships with a number of top companies in the industry and work with executives that are highly vetted and genuinely invested in helping authors grow.
Our programs take place 100% online (most utilize video conferencing software ZOOM). You can participate from anywhere in the world! The only requirements are a camera, a microphone, and a decent internet connection. The online classroom also provides for high-quality recordings of each class so that you can review the session at a later date.
