Elba Román-Morales is a writer and director from Puerto Rico. She grew up in a noisy household with four other siblings, where chaos was the norm. Elba is fluent in Spanish and English. She learned the fundamentals of filmmaking from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Earned an MFA in Film and Video from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, with a strong focus on directing -- where she was also awarded the Board of Trustees Fellowship. After a car accident left her needing to relearn a significant portion of language, Elba utilized screenwriting as the vehicle to teach herself to communicate as she had before. She then earned an MA in Screenwriting at the National Film and Television School in 2020. She has worked on several projects in the UK and was staffed on FX’s Mayans. The struggles that she has overcome throughout her life fueled her understanding of humanity and the love that she has for creating magical spaces where extraordinary things can happen.
