All of us at Roadmap are thrilled to announce the Winner of our 2019/2020 Top Tier Writing Competition!
We had incredible conversations with our Top 20 candidates and were truly honored to have so many talented storytellers who were a part of this year's competition. We hope to continue to work with these writers in the future and help them get closer to accomplishing their career goals.
And so with that we're pleased to announce this year's winner...
Joey Day Hargrove and her script SUNNY & HYDE!
SUNNY & HYDE - When a bank robber desperately grabs a hostage during his crime spree, he finds the most unlikely partner-in-crime: a teenage, homeschooled, super-sheltered, uber-Christian girl.
Originally from Norman, Oklahoma, Joey Day Hargrove felt like she never quite fit in. After trying on dozens of ill-fitting majors in college, she moved to Los Angeles after graduation to pursue a writing career.
Her TV and feature scripts have won five different writing contests/fellowships, including the Austin Film Festival and placed as finalists in at least six more. She previously worked in development for two different production companies and learned a lot from those opportunities. However, the long hours and endless pile of “to-read” scripts proved to drain her productivity as a writer. Now, she runs after school programs at a church for children and teenagers, which provides endless fodder for her writing and the time and flexibility to follow through and write. She belongs to the writing group Deadline Junkies, and enjoys taking classes on screenwriting, and even once took a (very painful) stand-up class.
Joey will be joining the ranks of Top Tier which is the pinnacle of Roadmap's Career Writer Program where a number of our success stories come from. The program gives writers unprecedented access to industry executives where they can network, get personalized feedback on their work, develop advanced marketing strategies and more.
