Roadmap recently chatted with Safehouse Pictures - Creative Executive, Ariane Ackerberg. Safehouse Pictures principles Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold recently produced JOHN WICK 3 and ROBIN HOOD for Lionsgate, and the Netflix series SPINNING OUT. The company also has upcoming projects with Ridley Scott, Warner Bros., SONY, TriStar Pictures, Jennifer Aniston, Leonardo DiCaprio and more.
Prior to joining Safehouse, Ariane worked at 20th Century Fox and also served as the Showrunner’s Assistant for NBC’s THE BLACKLIST: REDEMPTION. She is drawn to content that highlights minority communities, and is an active member of Women in Film and Film Independent.
You can read our quick Q&A with her below.What drew you to the entertainment industry?
When I was in undergrad in Chicago I knew I wanted to be in the industry. I wasn't sure in which capacity so I dabbled a bit in everything, writing, directing, producing and ultimately found my strength was in producing. I grew up watching tons of content and loved telling stories. I've always been more creative and felt this was the perfect fit for me.
What's your favorite part about working with writers?
I love hearing the passion in writers when they're telling me how their ideas are coming about. I love having an open dialogue and being able to bounce ideas off one another.
What gets you most excited about a writer's pitch?
I think just hearing the evolution of where they got where they are.
What's one bit of advice that helps you the most in this industry?
There's always tomorrow. Yes, not every day is going to be perfect. You're not going to sell every project or land that perfect actor on all your stuff but just keep trying and stick with it. It's all about the numbers.
I love going out to eat and trying new restaurants and outdoor activities. Just this weekend I hit up a new bar downtown that had 5 different themed bars within it and went to a cute bistro for dinner. Doing things like that give me the energy to continuously be reading and looking for new content!
