Interview with Manager - Audrey Knox

What drew you to the entertainment industry?
The experiences that drew me to the entertainment industry, in chronological order and therefore also in order of importance, were: Writing a book called The Enormis Karet (sic) in kindergarten and discovering that writing was a thing that anyone could do; watching Lindsay Lohan have fun on the DVD bonus features of Freaky Friday and seeing what working on a film set could be like; reading Dial L for Loser by Lisi Harrison and vowing that I would make it in Hollywood without throwing it all away for a boy like Claire did; studying Screenwriting in college and only driving 1.5 short hours to work, three times a week, to intern on shows like CSI and The Millionaire Matchmaker, where I realized that writers and producers were just as fun to work with as I’d hoped, and I learned that there are countless more jobs in Hollywood than just A-List actor that go into bringing entertaining stories to the screen.

What's your favorite part about working with writers?
My favorite part about working with writers is getting to meet different people from all walks of life. I love seeing the world through their eyes, helping them realize their voices, and engaging with those who have a desire to explore the meaning of the human experience through narrative.

What gets you most excited about a writer's pitch?
I get the most excited for a writer’s pitch when I just want to skip through the creative writing process and just watch it on TV or in theaters myself.

What's one bit of advice that helps you the most in this industry?
Motivational speaker from the 1950’s Earl Nightingale said “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” That stuck with me ever since I read it because more than anything in this town you need grit and perseverance to achieve success, which will not come overnight or easily.

What's your favorite non-industry-related hobby or activity?
When I’m not spending weekends reading scripts or binge-watching lighthearted procedurals, you’ll likely find me canvassing for local city council candidates or extolling the virtues of public transportation.
