Writing Your Teaser/Cold Open

Online Classes
Hosted By:

$99.00

The TEASER (in Drama) or COLD OPEN (in Comedy) of a pilot has to do a lot of heavy lifting. It doesn't just have to catch the audience's attention, but is has to introduce us to your characters, world, theme and vision for the show in just a couple of pages. From Breaking Bad to 30 Rock, a great teaser/cold open can set the stage for an awesome pilot script to come, win readers over, and get them engaged for the rest of your story. Getting your opening right is critical, as most execs won't read past page 5 if they're not engaged and confident in the writer's skills.

Join TV writer Parker Lemal-Brown for a Webinar + Clinic to learn all about how you can hook your reader in the first 5 pages! Following the webinar, up to 10 writers can sign up to receive feedback on their pilot teaser/cold open.

This 90 Minute Webinar Will Cover:

  • Reader expectations for a teaser/cold open
  • Setting up your world, theme and tone
  • How to pose the series' dramatic question
  • Examples and case studies
  • Feedback on your teaser/cold open (clinic only)
