It's more important now than ever that writers be proactive in finding ways to create buzz and momentum for themselves and their work. One way to do that is with a short film. Before you have a short film, though, you need a short script. 

But telling a complete, compelling story that spotlights your voice and storytelling chops in only 10 pages is no easy task. That's why Zac Allard (Exile Entertainment) is hosting this three week class to guide you through the process of drafting your short film! 

This Three Week Class Will Cover: 

  • Outlining 
  • Characters 
  • Voice and atmosphere
  • Feedback on your short film

Week One - Goals

  • Instructor will discuss the goals of a short proof-of-concept and how those goals differ from a full-length project.
  • Instructor will give notes on each writer’s Initial Outline.
  • Instructor will discuss Character and how to adjust your Character Breakdowns to reflect the shorter format.
     

Week Two - Character, Stakes & Closed Story

  • Instructor will give notes on each writer’s Revised Outline and Character Breakdowns.
  • Instructor will discuss ways to ramp up your stakes, even in a short format.
  • Instructor will discuss achieving a closed, compelling story in only a few minutes.

A graduate of Georgetown with a Masters in English, Zac Allard is currently a Creative Executive at management and production company Exile Entertainment, which represents award-winning writer/directors including Guillermo Del Toro (SHAPE OF WATER), Jennifer Kent (THE BABADOOK), and Josephine Decker (SHIRLEY). Zac has extensive experience working at numerous production companies and was one of the early readers on The Black List. In addition to developing/editing material with screenwriters and novelists and playwrights, Zac has published both creative and critical writing in a variety of journals and magazines.
