More about Robert Weston

Robert Weston is a movie producer, screenwriter and award-winning author based in Los Angeles, California. Mentored by former 20th Century Fox, Managing Director, Tim Hampton (ALIENS), Weston is the founder and owner of Straightwire Entertainment Group (www.straightwireentgroup.com) with offices in Los Angeles and the United Kingdom.

He developed his first movie property in 2006, entitled WHERE LOVE REIGNS. The period drama based on Freud and Jung was an adaptation of a successful stage play and attached a wealth of talent including, Martin Scorsese (THE IRISHMAN) and a cast which included the likes of Golden Globe winner Alan Rickman (DIE HARD) and Armin Mueller Stahl (SHINE). Weston has since gone onto produce fifteen movies with budgets combined in excess of $100m, including the remake of Latin American classic ELSA AND FRED, a romantic comedy which Weston produced alongside Oscar-winning producer Ed Saxon (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS) and Oscar-nominated director Michael Radford (IL POSTINO). The cast included Oscar winners Christopher Plummer (BEGINNERS), Shirley Maclaine (TERMS OF ENDEARMENT) and Marcia Gay Harden (MYSTIC RIVER).

Other notable credits include the adaptation of the award-winning novel, DARK PLACES, from world renowned author Gillian Flynn (GONE GIRL). The thriller would star Oscar winner Charlize Theron (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD) alongside Chloe Grace Moretz (CARRIE), Nicholas Hoult (THE GREAT) and Emmy nominee Christina Hendricks (MAD MEN). The movie was named on Indiewire’s list of the ‘100 Most Anticipated Films of the year’ and went onto break records for DirectTV upon its release.

Weston’s movies have played in festivals all over the world, including the critically acclaimed Natasha Lyonne (POKER FACE) starring ANTIBIRTH which premiered at Sundance. Most recently Weston produced the 2 x British Independent Film Award nominee, MADNESS IN THE METHOD starring Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith (JAY AND SILENT BOB), as well as a host of other stars including Gina Carano (MANDALORIAN), Jaime Camil (EL REY, VICENTE FERNANDEZ), David Dastmalchian (SUICIDE SQUAD) and featured the last ever cameo on-screen of the iconic Stan Lee (MARVEL). Weston’s first book ROB WESTON’S GUIDE TO METHOD ACTING was heavily featured in the movie and has since gone onto be voted amongst the ‘BEST ACTING BOOKS OF ALL TIME’ by Book Authority.

A material driven producer, who’s focus is on telling great stories no matter the genre, Weston is renowned in worldwide circles as an expert in finding and developing material for movies. He is very involved in all iterations of the drafts working closely with writers (if not writing himself) and crafting what to pick and choose. With an outstanding knowledge in film financing, structuring and developing high-quality projects, from initial concept through to delivery, Weston has positioned himself as a 'go-to producer' for the most exciting projects in development today. Currently on his development slate are the dramedy GREAT SCOTT, a homage to Back To The Future; LAND OF LEGEND, a fantasy adventure family movie, which Weston has written and will produce; the romantic comedy 31 DREAM STREET, based on the best-selling novel and the thriller KINDRED, which Weston has written and will produce and direct.

A member of the Producer’s Guild Of America, he is a regular speaker on film panels around the world (including the annual IFTA Production Conference) and regularly acts as a consultant to filmmakers on their projects.
