I have a personal interest in genre stories that come from underrepresented communities. Sci fi, action, fantasy or horror coming from latin, asian, arab, or african creators is something I'm always eager to see. I have a lot of experience in comedy, but specially animated comedy. Anything related or adjacent to video games. IP adaptations into features or series.
Sitcoms and unscripted tv.
Humberto Cervera is an entertainment industry professional with experience writing for animation, comics, and video games.
A self-published author, Humberto has written and self published eight books in the past five years. Four volumes of his sci fi action comic book series Fi-Tech: Robolution, Mechzalcoatl, a Latino Futurist story that imagines the Aztecs defending their land by piloting giant mechs and San Misterio, a story about two girls rediscovering the lost magic of a classical mexican town.
The second volume of Fi-Tech: Robolution was a finalist for the Comic Book of the Year Chinelo Award at Pixelatl 2023 while San Misterio was selected for that year MIFA Pitches at Annecy, but had to reject the selection due to having selling the option rights a few weeks before.
Mechzalcoatl was also nominated for comic book of the year at the 2025 edition of the festival, a short film based on the comic is now in production with Cinema Fantasma, while a feature adaptation is currently in development.
The short film he produced, LA CANCION DEL LAGO, premiered at LALIFF 2023 and was an official selection at Pixelatl 2023, the film is currently nominated for an Ariel in the “Best animated short” category.
He was also the writer and director for the 2025 Pixelatl signature short film and of course, he could not help himself and wrote a book about the process. As a freelance writer Humberto has worked with clients like HBO Max (REY MYSTERIO VS. THE DARKNESS & FRANKELDA'S BOOK OF SPOOKS), Cartoon Network Latin America (JUACO VS. PACO) and Distroller Mexico, among others.
Humberto has also written three features that are currently looking for financing. A feature film adaptation of FI-TECH: ROBOLUTION, GUERILLA GARDENERS, a story about two girls using the power of gardening and community to fight a corporation that is looking to gentrify their neighborhood and a zombie anthology movie that is narrated from the perspective of a dog.
Recently he also collaborated with Joystick Ventures by writing and creatively supervising the production of game trailers for Hell of an Office, Big Boy Boxing and W.I.L.D. Tactics. He also wrote the Joystick Ventures Arcade segment that aired during the Guerilla Collective showcase.
Previously Humberto was a creative executive for Cartoon Network Latin America, with a limited budget but a lot of resourcefulness. Humberto developed hit shows like VILLAINOUS, TOONTORIAL and FRANKELDA'S BOOK OF SPOOKS. TOONTORIAL ran for two seasons, with both seasons in the top 3 ratings while they aired, beating shows like STEVEN UNIVERSE and ADVENTURE TIME.
Humberto also developed and produced FRANKELDA'S BOOK OF SPOOKS, and co-wrote the pilot. The show was picked up to series and is available on HBO Max and has been praised by Guillermo del Toro and Jorge Gutierrez. A full feature movie will premiere in theaters in October 2025.
Humberto also brought to the table the opportunity to develop an animated show about Rey Mysterio the incredibly popular wrestler; he was a key part in both the negotiations and the creative development, the series premiered to high praise in 2023. Ever caring about creating a more inclusive industry Humberto fought tooth and nail to create more inclusive initiatives at CNLA, ending in the Girl Power yearly contest that the Cartoon Network does every year in partnership with Pixelatl.
Humberto has dual representation through Chatrone Management and Bash Entertainment. Humberto has a passion for bringing joy to the world and he believes storytelling is the best way to do so; so much that for a couple of years he was even a clown doctor at children's hospitals in Mexico city.
