Week #1: Introduction and Script Feedback

Date / Time

Your mentor will read your full script prior to the first session and will give each writer 20-30 min. of notes. Get personalized feedback on your pages and ask your mentor any questions about your script and the industry!

Week #2: Writers' Challenge & Pitch Roundtable

Date / Time

Your mentor will assign each writer a personalized writing prompt to see how you adapt to a "writing assignment" for group discussion. Following feedback & discussion of the Challenge submissions, you'll have the opportunity to test out the 5-7 min. verbal pitch for one of your projects and receive feedback from your mentor and peers.

Week #3: Final Script Review

Date / Time

Your mentor will read another full script prior to the session—it's your choice to get a second round of notes on your script to really make it shine or work on an entirely different script altogether! Following 20-25 min. of feedback for each writer, your mentor will open the floor to group discussion of the revised scripts, then open it up to live Q&A so come with questions!

Week #4: Next Steps Clinic & Pitch Roundtable

Date / Time

Your mentor will review a one-pager of your bio, loglines, any traction, and questions about where you're at and what you should focus on next when it comes to your screenwriting career. Get actionable career advice on what your next steps should be, plus you'll have the opportunity to get final thoughts on your reworked verbal pitch. This is your last chance for live Q&A, so come with questions!

More about Victoria Nguyen

Victoria Nguyen currently serves as the Vice President of Development and Production at Rebel Maverick. After being a PA on independent sets and interning at management companies, she landed at eOne in international acquisitions and then pivoted to the development department. She later worked in development at Valparaiso Pictures, managing the development slate and shepherding new projects and voices into the company - including the films STRAIGHT UP (currently on Netflix), PIG (acquired by Neon), and ON THE COUNT OF THREE (premiered at Sundance 2021).

At Rebel Maverick, Victoria helps develop projects for film and TV, focusing on diversity and inclusion of stories that are often overlooked. Rebel Maverick is a Los Angeles-based productions company co-run by Afro-Latinx queer writer-producer team, Matt Nicholas and Nastassja Kayln. They tell stories about the marginalized and underrepresented in a way that normalizes these experiences and reduces the stigma of being an "other". They champion stories in the film, television, and digital media space that put women at the forefront, give a platform to BIPOC, queer and differently-abled individuals, and more who are struggling with otherness and cultural displacement.

The company currently has series set up at Sony Pictures Television, such as BEEFING! which is based on a Vice Article with Vijal Patel supervising. They also are producing two other series with Sony Pictures TV: an anime (XOGENASYS) and half-hour comedy (CAMI & BO) with Mike Royce supervising, both of which will star Jesse T. Usher from THE BOYS. Also on the TV front, they are developing series with Common's Stardust Films, an anime (BLOODLINE); Kyra Sedgwick's Big Swing Productions, a one-hour drama (SHATTERED FACES); and Gina Rodriguez's I Can & I Will, a kids animated series (HEIRS TO DESTINY).
