Monsters, and ghosts, and slashers - oh my!
There are so many different types of horror films, and it's easy for writers to get turned around navigating all the subgenres. How do you know that you're setting up a scary premise? What sorts of character development do you need to do, and how do you balance that with the killer/ghost/monster? And how do you make sure that your script has atmosphere and tone?
Limited to only 5 writers, this 4 week class with manager Kegan Schell will take you through the development process and get set up for completing the opening pages of your script. Walk away with a solid outline, developed characters, and the first act of your horror film.
This Four Week Class Will Cover:
- Structure
- Character development
- Atmosphere and tone
- Feedback on your outline and pages
Originally from upstate New York, Kegan cut his teeth working for Chuck and Rebecca Roven at Atlas Entertainment on the DC Superhero Films. From there, Kegan joined Echo Lake, where he swiftly rose through the ranks and was promoted to Manager in the Literary Department. Kegan spent six years at Echo Lake before joining Navigation Media Group where he took charge in a leadership role within the literary department, building a presence in the Television space. In July of 2025 Kegan co-founded élevé entertainment with business partner Abigail Palmer, where they have continued to service artists of all backgrounds, with a focus on queer and underrepresented voices. As a Producer, Kegan aims to produce elevated material that is both entertaining and intelligent with a sharp edge and rich characters.
I just want to let you know how much I enjoyed the Develop Your Horror workshop. Kegan was so supportive and gave directed, actionable notes on the all writers’ work. He was great! I think I can speak for all the writers when I say we looked forward to the Monday night meetings. And bonus, there were very talented writers in the workshop. I would definitely recommend him to others wanting to develop or hone their scripts.
