Semifinalist, Holiday Romance Mentorship with Nicely Entertainment
BIO
María Bird-Picó is a bicultural writer whose distinctive perspective has been shaped by growing up with a wealth of books and nine siblings. Her three-decade journalism career culminated in a dream job as editor of a Latin American trade magazine, a position she held until five years ago. Since then, she has fully immersed herself in fiction and in screenwriting across genres, including rom-com, holiday, drama, YA, and comedy.
A decade ago, her first drama screenplay earned her a place among 14 Latinos selected for a NALIP screenwriting workshop in Los Angeles. She also wrote the script for *La Mecedora*, a celebrated short film produced by the Puerto Rico Film Commission. Over the past two years, she has refined a screenwriting portfolio that now includes two rom-coms, two dramas, a family comedy, a holiday script, a young adult script, and an anthology TV series based on her debut short story collection.
María is currently drafting a new screenplay for a holiday movie.
Her books have received major local literary awards and recognitions. Her diverse experiences-including serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Central America before the internet era and extensive international travel-continue to fuel her creativity and her passion for crafting original, deeply personal stories.
