Susie Shannon has worked providing direct services and fighting for systems change for the unhoused and low income communities since 2005. She serves on the City of Los Angeles Health Commission and as the policy director for Housing is a Human Right, an advocacy group for homeless and low income communities. In 2016, Susie Shannon spearheaded the passage of a statewide bill (SB 1380 - Sen. Holly Mitchell) which placed the State of CA on a housing first model to combat homelessness. She is also the founder of the Democratic National Committee Poverty Council where she works to build political power for homeless and low income communities. As a child, Susie's family experienced episodes of poverty and homelessness.
