BIO
MATTHEW NICHOLSON is a queer, neurodivergent screenwriter who recently relocated from New York City to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for storytelling. For over a decade, he worked closely with Star Trek icon George Takei, contributing to Takei’s social media, editorial, and video teams. During that time, Matthew produced and wrote a web series featuring George, his husband Brad Takei, Nichelle Nichols, and Lynda Carter.
His diverse professional background includes roles as a stage manager, social media manager for the Broadway musical Allegiance, and researcher for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. As a screenwriter, Matthew has placed in numerous fellowships and competitions, including the WeScreenplay Diverse Voices Lab, Humanitas New Voices Fellowship, Shore Scripts, Slamdance, and the CineStory Residency.
Matthew’s portfolio features award-winning short scripts, hour-long pilots, and features that reimagine old myths and explore the complexity of family legacy. His stories span from wine-obsessed zombies to possessed sculptures and octogenarians finding joy in unexpected places - all anchored by a deep commitment to exploring grief, loss, and death through a lens of humor and hope.
His pilot Care Source, inspired by his family’s experience with Huntington’s Disease and the loss of his mother, is currently ranked in the top 1% of projects on Coverfly and is the #1 Family TV One-Hour Pilot on the platform.
