Semifinalist, The Coletta Preacely-Garcia Diversity Fellowship 2025
BIO
MATIAS BRANGER is a Venezuelan writer, creator, and looks like his name could be “Dave.” In contrast to his appearance, he is in fact, a proud Venezuelan immigrant. A typical day in the life of Matias consists of Hispanic people assuming he is too white to be Latino, and his American friends asking him where “his accent is from.” Safe to say he finds himself at a crossroads. The only solution: say his name is ‘Matt’ at Starbucks lines.
As a senior in high school, Matias sat on top of a National AP Scholar award, with a stellar 5.21 weighted GPA, and plenty of scholarships for prestigious STEM-based universities. All first-generation college students (and everyone he knew) let out a collective gasp when he decided to pursue TV writing at NYU Tisch’s Dramatic Writing program. Matias adamantly believes in creating stories for those caught between cultures. He recently placed as a Finalist for the Road Map Writers Diversity Fellowship and the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards with his script “3.o.5.” Fans (his mother and her friends) will be able to watch Matias’ upcoming YouTube web series “The Film Bros of Greenwich Village” Fall of this year.
Currently an Executive Assistant to a senior agent/Partner at Paradigm Talent Agency, Matias is ready to embark on his TV writing career.
