BIO

MARC H. STEVENS grew up in Canada, knowing that his distant, quiet father had been a bomber pilot in World War 2, had been shot down and captured by the Nazis, and had made "a few escapes" as a POW. He had no idea that his father had actually been born a German Jew, and while living in England after Hitler came to power, had committed identity theft in order to enlist in the Royal Air Force in September 1939, and was being hunted by British police as a possible German spy.

His father died young in 1979 (when Marc was only 22), and Marc later decided to research what his Dad had done to be awarded Britain's exceptionally rare Military Cross (one of only 69 awarded to aircrew in WW2). It took 18 years for Marc to discover the whole story, culminating in Marc's book about his father.

Marc spent most of his 40-year working career dealing in wholesale industrial food ingredients, mainly chocolate. During the past 60 years, Marc considers himself very fortunate to have visited some 80 countries and all 3 continents (Antarctica three times!). Now happily retired in Toronto, Marc spends his time travelling, working on his boat, and playing pickleball with his wife.

Marc has attended Narrative Story Labs with Rocaberti (France, 2023) and Stowe (Vermont, 2024) with his screenplay "Escape'.
