BIO
KEVIN STERLING is a screenwriter who picked up a pen, paper, and Super 8 movie camera at the age of twelve to write, direct, and edit his own movies. Kevin is now a two-time alumnus of CineStory and has completed the UCLA Professional Programs in screenwriting and in producing.
After a promising pre-teen start to writing and producing films, Kevin continued making movies through junior college and received an acceptance letter to attend USC Film School. However, due to an anomaly that opened a portal in the multiverse, Kevin’s timeline split into two distinct probabilities.
In the first timeline, 19-year-old Kevin packed up his beat-up Buick Skylark and went to USC Film School, graduated with folks like Paul Feig and Peter Gould, then went on to write and direct several critically acclaimed films. His wildly successful writing career continues to thrive, and he is forever thankful for that Super 8, that Skylark, and for making his passion his life’s work. Good job, Kevin!
However, in this timeline, Kevin set aside that film school dream, “just for now,” thinking he had plenty of time for all of that, after he created a rock-solid foundation for his life. He earned an MBA, landed a steady job, and gained a whole bunch of practical life experience, all in pursuit of a backup plan for when he would eventually pursue a film career.
That backup plan became the plan until, after a long and successful professional career not writing or making films, Kevin realized he could alter the course of his timeline. He chose to lean on all his life experience and professional accomplishments to get back to his original dream.
Knowing he had a lot of catching up to do with that other Kevin, he worked on honing his craft, writing screenplays, taking film classes and workshops, and networking with other writers and filmmakers. Five of his screenplays have made finalist rounds in major competitions, and he’s also written a middle-grade novel. Just like his life, most of his stories are a fusion of sci-fi and comedy, with a side of adventure.
Both Kevins are movie buffs, avid readers, and outdoor adventurers. One has been married to his film career; the other is a married empty nester with three adult kids who are healthy and thriving (Really good job, Kevin!). The crazy thing? Both Kevins have a mixed-breed Chihuahua who defends their home from squirrels and crows.
The rift between these two timelines seemed too vast to portal between them, but … is it? The Kevin in this timeline says, “Let’s find out.”
