BIO
BATOUL MOURAD is a Lebanese-Australian-American teacher turned writer.
She went to NYU to study social studies education to be a high school teacher, and shortly after went backpacking around Europe (I know, very predictable), hopping hostels, just to learn that the physical world didn’t live up to the ones on her screen and in her mind. She pursued screenwriting full-time from that point on.
In the BMU (Batoul Mourad Universe), girls are bold, angry, and shamelessly loud, while boys are emotional, gentle, and surprisingly sensitive. She takes the sacred and treats it with playful irreverence, and what society deems trivial — girlhood, teenagers, pop culture — she elevates to religious status.
She lives in New York City, but Lebanon will always be her home — and her favorite source material. She writes both kids' and adult TV and has made her way through the Moonshot Pilot Accelerator, WeScreenplay Diverse Voice Lab, Sesame Street Writer’s Room workshop,p and the Yes.. And Laughter Lab. When she’s not writing, she’s in the classroom, shaping young minds — but more importantly, preparing for the day she gets staffed on Abbott Elementary or English Teacher because she has so many great teacher stories! Just ask me – I mean her – about them.
