Monique Sorgen is a French-American writer-director who uses comedy to upend the cultural expectations of a woman's place in society. Raised in an idealistic hippie house, her projects are fun but thought-provoking. She is a fellow in the Sony Directors Program, BlackMagic Collective, and in Alliance of Women Directors’ Directing the Actor Lab. She has written & directed multiple award-winning comedy films, SORRY, NOT SORRY, ROCK A BYE BABY and LYING IS COMPLICATED as well as an award-winning drama, RANDOM CHECK and an award winning webseries CODEPENDENT SOCKS! and her first short film PANTS ON FIRE was distributed on ARTE in France and Germany. She recently completed a 10 episode Vertical series and is in post-production on her NonDe feature film ONE DAY IN SEDONA starring Alysia Reiner (Orange is the New Black) and Wallace Langham (Crime Scene Investigation). Her novel HOW LONG YOU SHOULD WAIT TO HAVE SEX is under option as a feature. As a screenwriter, she has developed with Imagine, DiNovi, USA/UCP, Morgan Freeman’s Revelations, and David Oyelowo’s Yoruba Saxon, among many others, and works in TV. In her free time, she hosts the Writers Guild podcast “3rd & Fairfax,” creates political messaging for The Writers Brigade & Jane Fonda's Committee for the First Amendment, and directs theater, and teaches directing.
