Writer, Director, Producer, Editor, and sometime Composer Joshua Johnson, grew up in Olympia, Washington, where a DIY spirit and underground punk scene drove his passion for creative dissonance: not only must we make art that is provocative and rebellious, but the way we make it must also be an act of revolt. He pursued his passion for storytelling at The Evergreen State College, focusing on film and TV production. Over the past 18 years in Los Angeles, he has become a versatile Writer, Director, and Producer on several Documentary series including; The Amazing Race, Cities of the Underworld and Expedition Bigfoot.
He also has several credits making Independent Features and short films, such as: "LET THEM EAT BRAINS" (a tongue-in-cheek zombie film shot on 16mm), "ABULEA" (an LA ghost story) and one feature film, "BUZZARD HOLLOW BEEF"—an ultra-low-budget psychedelic, cannibal horror film shot in the PNW.
Whether he is looking for lost cities in the jungles of Honduras, embedding with DEA agents in Houston, interviewing Jane Goodall about the possibility of a North American primate or creating face melting special effects in his brother-in-law's bathroom, Joshua’s passion for storytelling is fueled by a strong belief in the absurdity, magic and mystery this world has to offer.
Additionally, for the last six months Josh has found a home on set making Vertical MiniDramas for DramaBox and DramaWave. His new found path is currently developing while he meets with Executives, pitching new ideas with the hope of producing original scripts in the vertical space in 2026.
