Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

TENET is #1 with just $6.7M (Million) after plunging -66.8% from its reported opening tally, which included more than a week of play in Canada in its estimated grosses. The total in the U.S. and Canada is now only $29.5M after adding more than 100 theaters including west coast plays in Orange County and Los Angeles County, while global stands at $207M after international added another $30M. Playing in every major territory now, expectations are that the film will finish somewhere in the $300M range worldwide, at what is now certain to be a steep financial loss for WB, given the film's high budget and marketing spend.

THE NEW MUTANTS is #2 with $2M, a domestic total of only $15.2M, and a worldwide total of $29.2M. While this was part of Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, they are still on the financial hook for marketing, and will see a moderate financial loss from the release.

UNHINGED is #3 with $1.5M, a domestic total of $13.8M, and $25.8M worldwide. With a budget of around $30M plus marketing, this will still be a financial loss for all involved, though should play strongly on PVOD (Premium Video On Demand) and rentals.

THE BROKEN HEARTS GALLERY opened at #4 with $1.1M for Sony, another disappointing number for a new release playing in theaters and drive-ins only.

AFTER WE COLLIDED opened at #5 with $525K (Thousand) playing in Canada only, ahead of a U.S. debut in October which will be a joint theatrical and PVOD release. Global total for the romantic drama is at $21M with many territories yet to open. The original film, COLLIDED, based on the series of YA novels, brought in $70M globally during its run.

BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC is #6 with $260K (Thousand), a domestic total of $2.7M and $2.9M worldwide. PVOD numbers have not been released for the film, though it has consistently remained at or near the top of sales and rental charts since its debut.

WORDS ON BATHROOM WALLS is #7 with $241K and a total of $1.9M for Roadside Attractions.

THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE ON THE RUN is #8 with $205K and a total of $3.9M playing exclusively in Canada. In the U.S. the film will be an exclusive across CBS All Access for Paramount.

THE PERSONAL HISTORY OF DAVID COPPERFIELD is #9 with $193K, a domestic total of $1.4M, and $11.5M worldwide for Fox Searchlight.

MY BROTHERS' CROSSING is #10 with $11K and a total of $40K playing independently in 69 theaters.
Other notable: MULAN, exclusively available on Disney+ Premier Access in the United States and several key international territories, brought in a disappointing $23.2M in China, for an international weekend of $29M. Overall, the Disney title has earned $37.6M playing in only 17 international markets, while PVOD earnings have not been made available.
Overall the domestic box office, including the U.S. and Canada, saw steep declines. The entire weekend top ten amounted to under $13M combined in what is an increasingly grim outlook for theatrical business during the pandemic.
