Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME is #1 again with $45.3M (Million), a domestic total of $274.5M and climbing, and a huge global haul of $847M after just two weeks. This Sony and Marvel smash is easily cruising towards the $1 Billion threshold, becoming the first film in the history of the franchise to ever reach that benchmark. A third entry in this series is already in development.

TOY STORY 4 held onto the #2 spot with $20.6M, a big domestic total of $346.3M, and $771M globally, in another win for Disney and Pixar. By next weekend, it will become the fourth biggest film ever domestically by Pixar, right behind the third Toy Story film.

CRAWL opened at #3 with a decent $12M domestic and an incredibly early $16.8M worldwide. Produced for only $13.5M plus a modest marketing campaign, this film will easily become profitable for Paramount, and is pacing in the same range as fellow sleeper successes 47 METERS DOWN and THE SHALLOWS, playing to much of the same audience.

STUBER opened at #4 with $8M, a disappointing total for this action-comedy from Fox, which has yet to produce a single hit since being acquired by Disney earlier in the year. The studio hopes to reverse its fortunes later this year with Brad Pitt sci-fi film AD ASTRA, and awards-contender FORD V. FERRARI, ahead of a more promising slate in 2020.

YESTERDAY is #5 with $6.7M, a domestic total of $48.3M, and $80M worldwide with a lot of international markets yet to open. Produced for only $26M plus marketing, this original romantic dramedy has already become profitable for Universal, with more to be earned.

ALADDIN continues to play at #6 with $5.8M, a big domestic total which now stands at $331.4M, and a gigantic $960M global haul, as this has been the biggest surprise of the summer.

ANNABELLE COMES HOME is #7 with $5.5M, a domestic total of $60.7M, and $173.5M worldwide. This will have no problem passing the $200M mark globally, in another win for WB and their CONJURING line of films, which continue to prove highly profitable.

MIDSOMMAR is #8 with $3.5M, and a solid $18.4M for A24. While not at the same level of success that HEREDITARY enjoyed, this is still a solid win given what was a limited marketing spend and small budget.

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2 is #9 with $3.1M, a domestic total of $147.1M, and almost $300M worldwide. Produced for $80M plus marketing, this is still profitable for Universal and Illumination, though disappointing and a sharp drop from the first film, which brought in $875M globally.

MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL is #10 with $2.2M, a domestic total of $76.8M, and just about $240M worldwide. Produced for $90M plus marketing, this is essentially in break-even range for Sony, but will likely mark the end of the MIB franchise at the studio.

Next weekend will be ruled by THE LION KING, which got off to an early start in China this weekend before it roars across a massive global debut in nearly every single market, with Disney poised for another gigantic success.
