Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2 opened at #1 with an okay $47.1M (Million) debut, and an early $97M globally, with most territories yet to open. Produced for $80M plus marketing, this is down sharply from the first film, but will still be a solidly profitable hit for Illumination and Universal.

DARK PHOENIX opened at #2 with a disastrous $33M domestic and $140M worldwide. Produced for $200M plus marketing, this film will be a sharp loss for Fox and Disney under the acquisition of the studio, as the final installment of the X-MEN franchise before a reboot within the Marvel Studios Universe, ends on the lowest note in the history of the series.

ALADDIN is #3 with $24.5M, a domestic total now of $232.3M, and $604.8M globally, as this Disney smash looks to finish its global run near the $800M range give or take. Produced for $183M plus marketing, this will be very profitable for the studio both theatrically and long-term.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is #4 with $15.5M, a domestic total of only $78.5M, and $292M worldwide. Produced for $170M plus marketing, this will be a financial loss, with the question now being how this film affects GODZILLA VS. KONG, which is in post-production and set for release next March.

ROCKETMAN is #5 with $14M, a domestic total of $50.4M, and $101.7M worldwide. Produced for $40M plus marketing, this will be a nicely profitable success for Paramount.

MA slid to #6 with $7.8M, a domestic total of $32.7M, and $40M worldwide. Produced for only $5M plus marketing, it's another success for Blumhouse and Universal, continuing their winning streak.

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 - PARABELLUM is #7 with $7.4M, a domestic total of $138.6M, and $252M worldwide, in a big success for Lionsgate.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME fell to #8 with $4.8M, a domestic total of $824.3M, and $2.730 Billion globally for Marvel Studios and Disney.

POKEMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU is #9 with $2.9M, a domestic total of $137.4M, and $409.5M worldwide. Produced for $150M plus marketing, this one will essentially finish in the range of profitability, and is expected to play even better on DVD and SVOD with family audiences.

BOOKSMART is #10 with $1.5M, and a total of $17.8M.

Next weekend sees debuts for MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL from Sony, and the newest iteration of SHAFT from WB.
