Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

MEN IN BLACK: INTERNATIONAL opened at #1 with a disappointing $28.5M (Million) domestic total but a much better global debut of $102.2M, as international popped at $73.7M. Produced for just $94M plus marketing costs, this one is expected to break even or possibly yield a small profit for Sony based, amusingly enough going by the film's title, on how well it is playing internationally.

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2 is #2 with $23.8M, a domestic total of $92M, and $154.5M worldwide. With a budget kept at only $80M plus marketing, this should have no problem being profitable for Universal and Illumination, though much less profitable than the first film or what the studio had hoped for with this sequel.

ALADDIN is #3 with $16.7M, a domestic total of $263.4M, and a big global take of $724.8M. Produced for $183M plus marketing, this Disney hit continues to play and will finish close to $800M globally when all is said and done.

DARK PHOENIX collapsed at #4 with $9M, a -72.6% drop from its opening last weekend. The domestic total is now $51.7M, and global is $204M. Produced for $200M plus marketing, this will be a steep financial loss as the final installment of the long-running franchise from Fox.

ROCKETMAN held at #5 with $8.8M, a domestic total of $66M, and $133.1M worldwide. Produced for $40M plus marketing, this musical biopic is already profitable for Paramount, with more to be earned.

SHAFT opened at #6 with only $8.3M. Produced for around $35M plus marketing, this will be a financial loss for WB, as the sequel/reboot was unable to bring in even close to the audience the studio had hoped for.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is #7 with $8.1M, a domestic total of only $93.6M, and a better $339.4M worldwide. Produced for $170M plus marketing, the best that WB and Legendary can hope for here is to hit the break-even range, and hope that GODZILLA VS. KONG next year plays to a wider-audience than this sequel.

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 - PARABELLUM is #8 with $6.1M, a domestic total of $148.6M, and a big $276M globally, which is more than what the previous two films earned worldwide combined in a tremendous success for Lionsgate.

LATE NIGHT opened at #9 with a disastrous $5.4M debut total. Amazon reportedly spent around $35M alone on marketing, and will take a sharp financial loss on this well-reviewed comedy.

MA is #10 with $3.6M, a domestic total of $40M, and $51.7M worldwide. Produced for only $5M plus marketing, this is another successful horror/thriller film from Universal and Blumhouse.

Next weekend sees the long-awaited debut of Disney and Pixar's TOY STORY 4 tracking for massive numbers across the globe, along with actioner ANNA and horror remake CHILD'S PLAY hoping to connect with their respective audiences.
