Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 - PARABELLUM opened at #1 with an impressive $57M (Million) debut domestically, and $92M worldwide. This start far surpasses both the original film and sequel, becoming the rare third-entry to earn more than its predecessors. It's a big win for Lionsgate, and the film should have strong legs thanks to its A- CinemaScore from audiences. Plans are already underway for a THE CONTINENTAL television series, BALLERINA spin-off film, and JOHN WICK CHAPTER 4, as the franchise expands to meet its global popularity.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is #2 with $29.4M, a domestic total of $770.8M, and global haul of $2.615 Billion. The only question now is whether it finishes in second place domestic and worldwide, or if the film unseats AVATAR's total of $2.788 Billion to claim the top spot. In either scenario, this is a massive achievement for Disney and Marvel.

POKEMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU held well at #3 with $24.8M, a domestic total of $94M, and $287.4M worldwide. Produced for $150M plus marketing there is now no doubt that this will be profitable for Legendary and WB, with a sequel already announced.

A DOG'S JOURNEY opened at #4 with an "okay" $8M debut for Universal, behind past canine-centric films. Profitability will depend largely on how it does internationally, where the first film in this series earned a massive $140M.

THE HUSTLE is #5 with $6M, a domestic total of $23M, and $36.9M worldwide, dropping below past Rebel Wilson films.

THE INTRUDER is #6 with $4M, and a total of $28M for Screen Gems. Produced for only $8M plus marketing, this is a nicely profitable hit for the studio, which continues to do well in the low-budget thriller genre.

LONG SHOT is #7 with $3.4M, a domestic total of only $25.7M, and $32.7M worldwide, a disappointing result for this Lionsgate romantic comedy.

THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR opened at #8 with a disastrous $2.6M for WB, as the teen audience completely failed to show up, despite the popularity of the YA novel from which this is based.

POMS is #9 with $2M, and a total of only $10M for STX.

UGLYDOLLS fell to #10 with $1.6M, and a total of $17.2M for STX as the studio's troubles continue. At a $45M budget plus marketing, the hope now is that the animated film will play better overseas than in the states.

Next weekend sees ALADDIN looking to open at number one for the extended Memorial Day holiday, with BRIGHTBURN and BOOKSMART also making their debut and hoping to connect with their respective audiences.
