Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

AVENGERS: ENDGAME opened at an all-time #1 with $350M (Million) domestic, and $1.209 Billion in its stunning, record-shattering debut. This is now the top opening ever surpassing INFINITY WAR by nearly $100M, and the first film to ever cross the $1 Billion mark in its opening, and doing so by a large margin. There are many other records set internationally and in the U.S. including biggest individual weekend days ever, but the bottom line is that at a $350M budget plus marketing campaign, the film is already profitable for Disney and Marvel after just a few days, and that alone is a jaw-dropping achievement, with much, much more to be earned by the studio in this conclusion to the original MCU. Next up serving as the epilogue to this era of Marvel is SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, with details on Marvel 2.0 set to come soon, as their post-Endgame plans have remained shrouded in secrecy.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is #2 with a big Endgame boost, bringing in $8M for the weekend, a domestic total of $413.5M, and $1.110 Billion globally, as the MCU has now earned nearly $20 Billion worldwide in combined profit over the duration of all its films.

THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA slid to #3 with $7.5M, a domestic total of $41.2M, and $86.9M worldwide. Produced for only $9M plus marketing, this is another nice horror success this year, and already solidly profitable for New Line/Warner Bros., with the third ANNABELLE film set for later this summer.

BREAKTHROUGH is #4 with $6.3M, a domestic total of $26.1M, and $33.7M worldwide, a good number for this low-budget faith-based drama, which should be profitable for Fox/Disney.

SHAZAM! is #5 with $5.5M, a domestic total now of $131M, and $346.3M worldwide. This will be crossing the $350M mark by next weekend. Produced for $90M plus marketing, it's a solid hit for WB and DC, continuing their success at the box office, with JOKER slated for October, followed by BIRDS OF PREY next February, and WONDER WOMAN 1984 as their next true "blockbuster" release in summer of 2020.

LITTLE held at #6 with $3.4M, a domestic total of $35.8M, and $42.4M worldwide. Produced for $20M plus a modest marketing campaign, this will be profitable for Universal.

DUMBO is #7 with $3.2M, a domestic total of $107M, and $327.6M worldwide. Even though it will be a financial loss for Disney, this one is more of an afterthought in the wake of other successes.

PET SEMATARY is #8 with $1.2M, a domestic total of $52.6M, and impressive $102.3M worldwide. Produced for $21M plus marketing, this is a hit for Paramount, as the horror genre continues to do very well this year.

US is #9 with $1.1M, a domestic total of $172.8M, and $249.4M worldwide, soon to pass the $250M mark, all on a budget of only $20M plus marketing for Jordan Peele and Universal.

PENGUINS is #10 with $1M, and a total of just $5.7M from Disney through their Disneynature label. While this will lose money for the studio, the next film out of the label has already been announced for the Disney+ streaming service, meaning that this one will likely be the final theatrical release under the brand.

Next weekend's new releases are romantic comedy LONG SHOT, animated family film UGLYDOLLS, and home-invasion thriller THE INTRUDER, while Marvel will easily rule the top spot again as ENDGAME snaps up more records for itself in the coming days and weeks ahead.
