Weekend Box Office Top Ten:
BAD BOYS FOR LIFE is #1 again with $17.6M (Million), a domestic total of $148M, and a worldwide total of $290M and climbing. Produced for $90M plus marketing, this Sony smash is already profitable for the studio, with more to be earned and a fourth movie in the franchise already being developed.
1917 is #2 with $9.6M, a domestic total of #119.2M, and a worldwide total of $249M. Produced for $90M plus marketing, this Universal awards-winner and Best Picture front runner is quickly marching towards profitability for the studio.
DOLITTLE is #3 with $7.7M, a domestic total of $55.2M, and $126.6M worldwide. Produced for $175M plus marketing, this is a sharp financial loss for Universal.
GRETEL & HANSEL opened at #4 with an underwhelming $6M from United Artists Releasing, the second horror release to be rejected by audiences in the past couple of weeks, though mitigated by a small budget and modest spend on marketing.
THE GENTLEMEN held at #5 with $6M, a domestic total now of $20.4M, and $48M worldwide. STX bought the domestic rights for $7M plus their marketing spend, and should see profitability off the acquisition.
JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL is #6 with $6M, a domestic total of $291.2M, and a global haul of $746M for Sony.
STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is #7 with $3.1M, a domestic total of $507M, and a global total of $1.058 Billion.
THE TURNING is #8 with $3M, and a total of $11M for Universal, as this horror title looks to be a moderate financial loss for all involved, having carried a budget of just $14M plus marketing costs.
LITTLE WOMEN is #9 with $3M, a domestic total of $98M (soon to break the $100M threshold), and $162M worldwide. Produced for $40M plus marketing, this is a very nice success for Sony.
THE RHYTHM SECTION opened at #10 with a disastrous $2.8M for Paramount. Produced for $50M plus marketing, this female-driven action/thriller will be a sharp loss for the studio, and the lowest opening weekend in Blake Lively's career.
Next weekend kicks February into high gear with BIRDS OF PREY being the only major studio release, on track to continue WB's winning streak with their DC Comics brand.
