Weekend Box Office Top Ten:
AQUAMAN is #1 with $51.5M, a domestic total of $188.7M since its debut, and a global haul of $748.7M, all but promised to smash through the $1 Billion mark sometime in the new year, becoming the first film from the DC Cinematic Universe (beginning with MAN OF STEEL) to accomplish this feat, and not just the biggest hit for the DC brand, but among WB's biggest hits ever, and one of the biggest comic book adaptations of all-time globally.

MARY POPPINS RETURNS is #2 with $28M, a domestic total of $98.9M since its debut, and $173.3M globally. Produced for around $120M plus marketing, this film is a long play for Disney, which rely on great holds and a decent international run to reach profitability.

BUMBLEBEE is #3 with $20.5M, a domestic total of $66.7M since its debut, and an early $156.7M globally. Produced for $135M plus marketing, this film still has a long way towards profitability, but is expected to reach that mark for Paramount, as the film's critical and audience reception is high, continuing to play in a crowded field.

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE held at #4 with $18.3M, a domestic total of $103.6M, and $213.2M globally. Produced for $90M plus marketing, this film is well on its way towards profitability, with a sequel and spin-off already announced by Sony.

THE MULE is #5 with $11.7M, and a total of $60.7M with international yet to debut. Produced for $50M plus marketing, this film is marching towards profitability for WB thanks to strong holds, and what should be a decent international total thanks to Clint Eastwood's star power here and abroad.

VICE is #6 with $7.7M, and a total of $17.6M since its debut. Produced for $60M plus marketing, this film is likely to be a financial loser for Annapurna, as there is zero path to profitability for this one.

HOLMES AND WATSON is #7 with $7.3M, $19.7M domestic, and a very early $23.7M worldwide with most of international yet to open. Produced for $42M plus marketing, despite dismal critical and audience reaction this could at least hit break-even territory depending on how it holds and plays globally for Sony.

SECOND ACT is #8 with $7.2M, $21.7M since its debut, and an early $28M worldwide. Produced for $16M plus marketing, this film will definitely be profitable for STX, playing as a nice holiday sleeper success.

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET slid to #9 with $6.5M, a domestic total of $175.7M, and a global take of $350M. Produced for $175M plus marketing, this film still has a long path towards profitability for Disney, but is expected to, as international has a number of key territories yet to open.

DR. SEUSS' THE GRINCH is #10 with $4.2M, a domestic haul of $265.5M, and a global total of $469.4M. Produced for $75M plus marketing, this huge hit for Universal and Illumination is wrapping up its run as among the biggest Christmas-themed movies ever.

Next weekend will see Aquaman, Mary Poppins, Bumblebee, Spider-Man and the rest rule the box office once again, as ESCAPE ROOM is the only new release, kicking off what is sure to be another record year in 2019.
