Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL opened at #1 with an impressive $60M (Million) domestic debut and $212.6M globally, with much more to be earned and several key international markets yet to premiere. This is a smash hit for Sony, following the successful reboot of the franchise in 2017. Produced for just $125M plus marketing, the film has already exceeded tracking, and is headed easily for profitability with another installment likely to be announced soon.

FROZEN 2 is #2 with $19.1M, a domestic total of $366.5M, and a global haul which now stands at $1.032 Billion for Disney. This film isn't slowing down, and at a budget of $150M plus marketing, is wildly profitable for Disney. The only question is whether the inevitable third installment will take another six years, or be produced sooner.

KNIVES OUT is #3 with $9.2M, a domestic total of $78.9M, and a global total of $162.2M. With a budget of $40M plus marketing, this film is already profitable for Lionsgate and MRC, and seems set to cross the $200M mark worldwide before the end of its run. In addition to its Golden Globe nominations, this film is likely to be the start of a new original franchise.

RICHARD JEWELL opened at #4 with a poor showing of $5M for WB, likely to disappear from theaters quickly.

BLACK CHRISTMAS opened at #5 earning a disastrous $4.4M for Universal, along with a D+ CinemaScore as audiences hated this film. Poor word of mouth, negative reviews, and the horror crowd failing to show up will lead to this vanishing from screens in the next couple of weeks.

FORD V. FERRARI is #6 with $4.1M, a domestic total of $98.2M, and $184.6M worldwide. This one will cross the $100M mark domestic by next weekend, and will earn more than $200M globally before the China release adds more fuel to the fire. All told this one will be profitable for Fox and Disney.

QUEEN & SLIM is #7 with $3.6M and a total now of $33.1M for Universal. Produced for $17M plus a modest marketing campaign, this will post a small profit for the studio.

A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is #8 with $3.3M and a total of nearly $50M, with international yet to debut. Produced for $25M plus marketing, there is no doubt that this will be profitable for Sony worldwide.

DARK WATERS is #9 with $2M and a total of $8.8M for Focus Features.

21 BRIDGES is #10 with $1.1M, a domestic total of $26.3M, and an early $37.8M with international slowly expanding on this crime thriller. Produced for $33M plus marketing, this one could reach breakeven thanks to the global result but is a disappointment.

Other Notable: LAST CHRISTMAS has now earned more than $100M globally for Universal, in a win for Romantic Comedies and original material. Produced for just $25M plus marketing, this film still has a few key markets yet to play for the studio, all timed around the holiday.

Next weekend sees the global launch of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, with all eyes on the results for Disney's conclusion of not just their sequel trilogy, but what has been billed as the final ending of all 9 installments of the Skywalker Saga.
