Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

TERMINATOR: DARK FATE opened at #1 with a disastrous $29M (Million) domestic and $123M globally in every major territory except for Japan. With a budget of $185M plus marketing, this will be a sharp financial loss for Skydance and Paramount, and will finish with less than $250M globally. This also marks the third failed reboot of the killer cyborg franchise in the span of ten years, beginning with TERMINATOR: SALVATION in 2009.

JOKER held on at #2 with $13.9M, a domestic total of $299.6M, and a massive $934M global haul. The only question now is whether the film will be able to cross the $1 Billion threshold or if it will fall just short, in what is a stunning success either way for WB and the DC brand, and what promises to be a lengthy awards run for the supervillain origin.

MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL is #3 with $12.1M, a domestic total of $84.3M, and a global total of $383M and climbing. With a budget that is said to be around the first film's $180M cost plus marketing, this should end up in the break-even range for Disney, albeit a massive disappointment in comparison to the first film's $758M final worldwide total.

HARRIET opened at #4 with a strong $12M debut for Focus Features. Produced for $17M plus a modest marketing campaign, this should have no problem reaching break-even for the studio, if not profitability.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY is #5 with $8.5M, a domestic total of $85.2M, and a worldwide total of $129.2M. With a budget of around $40M plus marketing, this has already become a profitable animated reboot of the franchise, with a sequel in development.

ZOMBIELAND 2 is #6 with $7.3M, a domestic total of $59.3M, and $87M worldwide. Produced for $42M plus marketing, this should be able to reach profitability for Sony, and finish with a higher global total than the original.

COUNTDOWN is #7 with $5.8M, and a total now of $17.7M for STX. Produced for $6.5M, this one has performed beyond expectations, adding to the studio's success this fall which began with HUSTLERS. Next up for STX is 21 BRIDGES which makes its debut later this month.

BLACK AND BLUE is #8 with $4M, and a total of just $15.4M. Produced for $12M plus a modest marketing campaign, this police thriller will post a small financial loss for Screen Gems.

MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN opened at #9 with $3.6M for WB. Produced for around $25M plus a small marketing push, this will be a financial loss for WB.

ARCTIC DOGS opened at #10 with $3.1M for Entertainment Studios, as the family audience couldn't be enticed to show up for this kids movie, opting instead for the Addams Family or saving their money for Frozen 2.

Next weekend sees debuts for WB's anticipated SHINING sequel DOCTOR SLEEP, Universal's romantic LAST CHRISTMAS, historical drama MIDWAY, and Nickelodeon family comedy PLAYING WITH FIRE.
