Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

FORD V. FERRARI opened at #1 with an impressive $31M (Million) domestic and an early $52.4M worldwide, ahead of what is expected to be a lengthy and lucrative run through the awards season. Audiences awarded this film an A+ Cinemascore as well, which combined with the critical acclaim, promises some great holds in the weeks to come. Produced for around $96M plus marketing, this should end up profitable for Fox and Disney, giving the studio a much needed victory since their acquisition.

MIDWAY is #2 with $8.7M, a domestic total of $35M, and just $53.7M worldwide. Produced for $100M plus marketing, this will be a significant financial loss for all involved.

CHARLIE'S ANGELS opened at #3 with a disastrous $8.6M domestic and $27.9M worldwide debut, including just around a $7M opening in China. Produced for $48M plus marketing, this will be a sharp loss for Sony and vanish from theaters quickly.

PLAYING WITH FIRE is #4 with $8.5M, a domestic total of $25.4M, and an early worldwide total of close to $30M. With a budget of $29M plus marketing, it's not clear yet if this Paramount Players family comedy can reach profitability, but it should at least hit the breakeven range for the studio.

LAST CHRISTMAS is #5 with $6.7M, a domestic total of $22.5M, and $35M worldwide. Produced for $25M plus marketing, this one should hit breakeven for Universal, though it likely won't gross enough for profitability.

DOCTOR SLEEP collapsed at #6 with $6.1M, a domestic total of just $25M, and $53.8M worldwide. Produced for around $70M plus marketing, this will be a financial loss for WB.
THE GOOD LIAR opened at #7 with only $5.6M, continuing the bad news for WB when it comes to their adult-skewing fall slate. The decent news is that the film was produced for a reasonable $10M plus a modest marketing campaign, meaning it will only be a small financial loss for the studio.

JOKER is #8 with $5.3M, an impressive domestic total of $322M, and a stunning $1.016 Billion global haul, eclipsing THE DARK KNIGHT to become the third biggest DC Comics film ever, and the fourth to earn more than $1 Billion for WB. All told, the studio is said to be looking at over $600M in profit for this film, thanks to a budget which was kept at only $55M, making this one of the most profitable movies in history.

MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL is #9 with $5.2M, a domestic total of $106M, and a global total of $458M. With a budget of around $170M, this film will roughly reach the range of profitability, but is down sharply from the first movie (a $758M global finish), in what is a disappointment for Disney.

HARRIET is #10 with $4.7M, and a total of $31.8M for Focus Features. Produced for $17M plus a modest marketing campaign, this will definitely reach breakeven, and could even go on to profitability depending on the holiday holds and any awards boost.

Next weekend kicks off the massive Thanksgiving stretch all the way through Christmas, with debuts for FROZEN 2 from Disney, A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD from Sony, 21 BRIDGES from STX, and KNIVES OUT from Lionsgate all looking to bring in their respective audiences.
