Weekend Box Office Top Ten:
JOKER jumped back to the #1 spot with $18.9M (Million) this weekend, after falling to the number two position last week. The domestic total is now $277.5M and global stands at a jaw-dropping $849M. By next weekend this movie will surpass BATMAN V. SUPERMAN's global total of $873M, as the Clown Prince of Crime's origin tale is set to finish with more than $900M worldwide by the end of its run, easily claiming the title of highest grossing R-rated film of all-time.
MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL fell to #2 with $18.5M, a domestic total of just $65.4M, but a global total which has now hit $293M after earning more than another $60M internationally this weekend alone. Produced for $185M plus marketing costs, this film still has a ways to go before it can claim profitability, but at this rate, a break-even result looks promising for Disney.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY is #3 with $11.7M, a domestic total of $72.8M, and an early $84M worldwide, with most of international yet to open. Produced for $40M plus marketing, this one will no doubt be profitable, with a sequel already in development.
ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP is #4 with $11.6M, a domestic total of $47M, and a worldwide total of $63.6M. Produced for $42M plus marketing, this one is still a ways off from reaching profitability for Sony, but could be a success depending on how well it continues to hold, and how it plays further internationally.
COUNTDOWN opened at #5 with $9M for STX, at the highest end of where tracking had it pegged. Additionally, this horror film should see a decent boost on Halloween night. With a cost of $6M plus a modest marketing campaign, this will be profitable for the studio.
BLACK AND BLUE opened at #6 with $8.3M, a solid result for Screen Gems. Produced for just $12M plus marketing, the end result here is a film which should have a decent multiple and reach profitability.
GEMINI MAN is #7 with $4M, a domestic total now of only $43.3M, and $148M worldwide. Produced for $130M plus marketing, this will be a sharp financial loss for Skydance and Paramount.
THE LIGHTHOUSE is #8 with $3.6M, playing in just 586 theaters. Whether this A24 specialty release will be profitable or not is up in the air, but this is a decent result for such a niche film.
THE CURRENT WAR: DIRECTOR'S CUT opened at #9 with $2.7M, as the beleaguered film at last was given a proper release, in line with the filmmaker's vision for the project.
ABOMINABLE is #10 with $2M, a domestic total of $56.8M, and a worldwide total of $144M, in what will be a financial loss for Dreamworks Animation and Universal.
Next weekend sees the domestic debut of TERMINATOR: DARK FATE and global expansion of the sci-fi sequel after getting an early start in a handful of international markets. It's the only wide-release from a studio, but kicks off what will be a crowded and lucrative November, with DOCTOR SLEEP, FORD V. FERRARI, LAST CHRISTMAS, KNIVES OUT, A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, 21 BRIDGES, and the behemoth that is FROZEN 2 among the upcoming titles this next month.
