Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

THE WAR WITH GRANDPA opened at #1 over this dismal weekend with a total of only $3.6M (Million), among the lowest top openings in the history of modern box office. From 101 Studios, the film has a total of $5.2M globally. It is expected to perform solidly on PVOD (Premium Video On Demand) when it is released in the home markets, in particular with the family audience for which this PG-rated title is squarely aimed at.

TENET fell to #2 with $2.1M, a domestic total of just $48.3M, and $323M worldwide. The film is now certain to not rise much past $350M global, and won't even reach the $400M threshold for WB, in what is a significant loss for the studio given the film's budget which was around $200M plus marketing costs.

HOCUS POCUS is #3 on its re-release from Disney, with $1.1M and a total of $3M for this Halloween season.

THE NEW MUTANTS is #4 with $685K (Thousand), a domestic total of $21.9M and a worldwide total of $42.9M. While the film was inherited from Fox, Disney is still on the line for marketing costs, meaning this Marvel film will post a moderate loss for the studio.

UNHINGED is #5 with $660K, a domestic total of $19.3M, and a worldwide total of $37.3M. The first film released by Solstice Studios, while it will come up short of expectations, should still end up profitable when it no doubt becomes a PVOD smash hit, given the legs it has enjoyed through a limited theatrical run.

INFIDEL is #6 with $205K and a total of $3.8M for independent distributor Cloudburst Entertainment.

POSSESSOR UNCUT is #7 with $163K and a total of $529K for distributor Neon.

YELLOW ROSE opened at #8 with $150K for Stage 6 Films.

STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is #9 with $145K, another re-release from Disney targeted mostly for the drive-in crowd. The total stands at $2.4M.

THE BROKEN HEARTS GALLERY has collapsed at #10 with $90K and a total of only $3.9M for Sony.

With theaters nationwide closing down again and no significant releases on the horizon, this will be the last Weekend Box Office Top Ten article from me for awhile. New updates will resume when the next major studio film hits multiplexes across the globe.
