Congrats on getting signed! Can you tell us a little bit about your writing background and your road to getting signed?
Thank you! I have spent many years writing and have had representation in the past. After my last rep and I parted ways, I decided to just focus on writing the strongest material possible for a while. Writers can become so focused on “getting repped’ that sometimes we end up with reps that aren’t the greatest fit for what we want to do. I wanted to avoid that and choose wisely when I felt ready.
You won last year's Top Tier Competition and got to participate in the program for the last year. Can you share what that experience was like? Any program highlights?
Focusing on writing the strongest material possible led me to write HIGHWAY TO HECK (previously titled Sunny & Hyde) which was selected as the Top Tier Competition winner. That amazing honor came with a year of Roadmap Top Tier services! As a writer, one of my biggest struggles has always been pitching myself and my writing. So the pitch prep classes with Dorian were life-changing for me. And then having the opportunity to talk and pitch my projects repeatedly to really supportive execs and reps helped me to feel much more confident.
Who are your writing influences? Whose work do you admire?
This question is too hard. There are too many to list. Everyone from Jane Austen to Tina Fey (and probably some men as well.)
Other than getting signed, what's jazzing you right now?
My husband gave me a tiny rescue puppy named Po for Christmas that is providing a great distraction and entertainment during the pandemic for our whole family, well except our other dog who is still pouting about it.
How did you discover Roadmap Writers?
I met Joey Tuccio years ago through the WAN Fellowship and we became Facebook friends. I had watched him start and grow Roadmap Writers from a very distanced “looky-loo” place and was impressed by his success with it. However, it wasn’t until I won the Top Tier Contest and actually started participating myself that I realized how valuable it can be. I am very grateful to Joey and the Roadmap Writers crew for the recognition, encouragement and opportunities!
