Mentored by former 20th Century Fox, Managing Director, Tim Hampton (Aliens), Rob Weston developed his first property in 2005. Entitled 'Where Love Reigns', the project attached a wealth of talent including, Martin Scorsese (The Wolf Of Wall Street), multiple Oscar winner Jack Cardiff (African Queen), Golden Globe nominee Michael Nyman (The Piano) and a cast which included Golden Globe winner Alan Rickman (Die Hard) and Oscar nominee Armin Mueller Stahl (Shine). Simultaneously, Weston executive produced the James Woods starring award winning drama 'This Girls Life'.
Weston has since gone onto produce multiple movies with budgets combined in excess of $60m USD.
He produced festival favorite 'Gnaw' (2008), then the sequel to hit horror movie 'Zombie Diaries' (2011), partnering with The Weinstein Company, which critics hailed as 'the best horror movie of the year'. Simultaneously, Weston, made thriller 'Don't Let Him' In (2011), which released by Image Entertainment went onto become one of their top performing titles of the year.
In 2012, Weston made 'The Thompsons', the sequel to hit horror movie The Hamiltons for Lionsgate, which enjoyed a prosperous festival run around the world. On it's Frightfest debut, leading publication Total Film called it 'Twilight meets Tarantino'. Weston then made Spanish Language thriller, 'Die Again' (Aka 'Wake Up And Die').
In 2013, Weston partnered with Rio Negro (Gloria) to remake the classic Latin American romantic comedy, 'Elsa And Fred', with Oscar winning producer Ed Saxon (Silence Of The Lambs) and Oscar nominated director Michael Radford (Il Postino). The cast included Oscar winners Christopher Plummer (Beginners), Shirley Maclaine (Terms Of Endearment) and Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River). Millennium Entertainment released the film after an award winning festival run. Weston simultaneously made the Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil) thriller 'The List' for the Palm D'or nominated director Klaus Huttman and sci-fi extravaganza 'The Last Scout' for Epic Pictures.
Weston then went on to adapt the crime, mystery, award-winning novel, 'Dark Places' (2015), from best selling author Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Sharp Objects). The movie starred Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) alongside Chloe Moretz (Carrie), Nicholas Hoult (Jack The Giant Slayer) and Emmy award nominee Christina Hendricks (Mad Men). The movie was named on Indiewire's list of the '100 Most Anticipated Films of the year' and went onto break records for DirectTV upon its release, before A24's theatrical run. Weston then made the Natasha Lyonne (Orange Is The New Black) starrer 'Antibirth'. The movie premiered to acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016 and also starred Chloe Sevigny (American Horror Story) and Oscar nominee Meg Tilly (Agnes Of God).
In 2017, Weston executive produced the action thriller 'Redcon 1' for director Chee Keong Cheung (Bodyguard: A New Beginning) alongside Kevin Eastman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Carlos Gallardo (El Mariachi), as well as partnering with Dread Central to executive produce their horror '#Screamers'.
In 2018, Weston produced the highly anticipated Jason Mewes (Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back) directorial debut, 'Madness In The Method', a meta comedy, starring a who's who of Hollywood, including a diverse cast, which included, Mewes, Kevin Smith (Clerks), Gina Carano (Deadpool), Jaime Camil (Jane The Virgin), Danny Trejo (Machete) and Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives) to name but a few.
Currently Weston has multiple projects in the works for TV and Film through his production shingle Straightwire Films.
Weston's projects have played in every major territory, as well as gracing festivals all around the world, where Westonhimself has been invited to speak on panels (including for the Independent Film and Television Association).
Weston prides himself on working closely with writers in the creative process, having managed the careers of writers including Michael John Bell, who has gone onto form writer/ director partnerships with David Yates (Harry Potter) and Patricia Riggen (Miracles From Heaven) and write screenplays including 'The 33' (starring Antonio Banderas and Gabriel Byrne). A firm believer in the mentorship process, Weston has also acted as a mentor for students.
