If you want to write for TV, then you have to work well in a writers' room. In addition to having killer samples, you have to be able to work with other writers to build on and enhance the vision of someone else's pilot. You need to be able to collaborate, pitch ideas, take notes quickly, and revise, revise, revise. There's a lot more to being a staff writer than meets the eye, and one of the best ways to see your own show on air is to establish yourself as a good staff writer.
But how do you develop those skills? How do you collaborate within the hierarchy of the room? And what is really expected of a staff writer day-to-day?
Roadmap has put together this special 4-week course to teach you everything you need to know to kill it in your first staffed position!

Charlotte Austin Johnson was most recently a Staff Writer on the NBC sitcom PERFECT HARMONY. Previously she was a Script Coordinator on the CBS show LIFE IN PIECES and worked in development at the media company Refinery29. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a double-major in Psychology and Film, and a concentration in Theater. In 2015, she was the recipient of the Studio North grant for filmmaking. The hardest thing she’s ever had to accept about herself is she would make a fantastic PE teacher.
Immediately after registering, you will receive an Order Confirmation email that serves as the receipt for your registration. In the Order Summary section of this email you will find a link reading "CLICK HERE FOR INSTRUCTIONS" that will take you to your syllabus, instructions for submitting material (if any), and the link to join the Live Class. Sessions are conducted via video conferencing software ZOOM. You will receive a link to the recording of the session via email following the live session.
Payment plans are available for most multi-week classes. For 4-week programs, your balance will be due the second week of class. For longer programs, the balance will be broken up into 3 or 4 payments with the final payment due prior to the final week of class. Please note that you are responsible for the full price of the class even if you decide not to complete the program for any reason.
You may cancel for a full refund up to 72 hrs. prior to the start of the class. Cancellations requested after this deadline will be ineligible for refunds.
