Concept First. Why does this story need to be told? What is about (not the story... what is it actually about)?
Nicholas Levene was born in London and graduated from New College, University of Oxford with a degree in English Literature and Russian (language and literature). He moved to Los Angeles in 2004 and has worked in the film industry since then, at first as an actor before moving behind the camera.
Over the last 14 years, he has divided his time between London and Los Angeles, working on numerous projects as actor, writer, director, and producer. Nicolas has also spent several years living and working abroad, including a period where he was employed by both the Sponsorship and the Press Departments for Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre.
Between 2013 and 2016, Nicolas was the Head of Development and Production for LAMF (Los Angeles Media Fund), a full-service film production and financing company. While at LAMF, Nicolas oversaw feature films with budgets ranging from $5M to $35M, both independent productions and projects co-financed and co-produced with the studios. Films for LAMF included JULIET, NAKED (distributed by Lionsgate), THE BYE BYE MAN (co-financed with and released by STX), and THE SPACE BETWEEN US (also with STX).
From 2016 Nicolas left LAMF and returned to developing multiple projects of his own for both film and television. From 2017 to 2019, in addition to his own producing, Nicolas began consulting for HanWay Films, representing the London-based sales company in the US. During his time with HanWay the company handled a large number of projects including Ralph Fiennes’ THE WHITE CROW, Wash Westmoreland’s COLETTE, Kim Nguyen’s THE HUMMINGBIRD PROJECT, Jean-Stephane Sauvaire’s A PRAYER BEFORE DAWN, Ron Howard’s PAVAROTTI, Viggo Mortensen’s FALLING, James D’Arcy’s MADE IN ITALY, and Simon Barrett’s SEANCE.
Nicolas finished consulting for HanWay at the end of last year and launched Fairvale Entertainment with his producing partner, Toby Louie. Fairvale's principal remit is to develop, produce, and finance elevated genre content (sophisticated horror, grounded sci-fi, and contained thrillers) in the $1-10M range for both film and TV. Nicolas also continues to work closely with several UK-based media companies, including Hindsight Media (a debt lender and film/TV financier) and Water & Power (a production company with a strong focus on television comedy and high concept films).
