Pitch Tips

If you're pitching a comedy make sure you have jokes or situations that are actually funny. Make sure you have clear acts when pitching film and TV pilots.

About Your Host

Mark Saffian worked in production for years as a Production Coordinator and Assistant Director before becoming an executive. Beginning in the mail room at APA, then being promoted to an Assistant in the Packaging Department eventually becoming the Literary Department Development Coordinator where I helped to develop and sold pilots and films for the agency including the feature film "O" a modern retelling of Othello and the television series "24". After APA, I was a Development Executive and Story Editor for Sony Pictures and Sid Ganis/Out of the Blue Entertainment where I was a Story Editor on "Big Daddy" and "Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo". I read spec scripts, screenplays, pilots, books and evaluated projects of all types for acquisition and development for both film and television for the studio. My current company is Content House, a literary management company. We represent dozens of New York Times Best Selling Authors, screenwriters, directors and production companies. We also represent a lot of the top names in comic book authors and creators, webcomics, video games and new media. We are currently actively developing The Crook Factory based on the best-selling novel by Dan Simmons (The Terror, Hyperion) telling the true story of Ernest Hemingway running a spy ring out of Cuba during World War 2, as well as, the television series "One Second After" with Constantin Films based on the best selling trilogy of books by William Forstchen. Recently, we have sold or set-up series on behalf of our clients to EOne, Warner Bros. Studios, Warner Animation, CW, Comedy Central, Showtime and HBO.

Specifically not interested in:

Unless a drama feature involves life rights, true story or some other heightened angle, I have absolutely zero interest.
