Roadmap Exclusive Interview!
Aside from a well-introduced world/hero, is there anything else you look for in the first 8-15 pages of a script?
I pay attention to the writing and formatting to get a sense of how experienced the writer is. If I find typos, formatting errors, or clunky character intros, I start worrying that the writer is inexperienced. Overall, I'm looking to be entertained as I read.
If you had to describe a writer’s “voice” in a few words, how would you describe it?
Voice to me is the perspective the writer has on the world. It's an inherent philosophy that informs the writer's work. The stronger the voice, the more a script stands out. Fleabag is an obvious example. Breaking Bad is another.
If you could have been part of any movie or TV show that's been out in the past 2 years, what would it be?
CHERNOBYL, WATCHMEN, FLEABAG, KILLING EVE.
Truth is stranger than fiction. If you have a story based on real events, it tends to resonate more with us.
