About Your Host

John is the Co-Executive Producer of Oscar winner 1917 and is an experienced film executive for over 10 years with development oversight of major theatrical releases grossing over $2 billion worldwide, including Academy Award winners and nominees Black Swan, Hacksaw Ridge, The Ides of March, and Rocketman. Also a WGA Award nominated writer for the hit Showtime sitcom Nurse Jackie. With New Republic Pictures, he is producing UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, based on the bestselling comic book by Scott Snyder and Charles Strouse. Released in November 2019 by Image Comics to much acclaim, the comic is the largest seller for Image since The Walking Dead. Shepherd brought the project to New Republic, which secured the rights with a seven-figure deal, one of the highest rights acquisitions for a comic series in recent times. Shepherd is also producing HORRORSTOR with NRP, an adaptation of bestselling author Grady Hendrix’s novel about a haunted big box furniture store. The book made a splash on its release for its IKEA catalog-style cover, and Hendrix’s latest book The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires hit the New York Times bestseller list before being purchased by Amazon for a TV series. Shepherd will also produce DUSTED by Guy Douall for NRP, a small town thriller with a supernatural twist in the vein of Stephen King. New Republic optioned the spec screenplay following its win in the Roadmap Writers & New Republic Pictures feature film script contest in 2019.
