Short Story/Prose Class

Creative Executive
Exile Entertainment
Sundays 11/17, 11/24, 12/8 & 12/15 @ 6:00pm PT - 8:00pm PT

Let’s say you’ve been writing scripts for a while, and you want to get into writing novels. But if you’ve been writing screenplays all this time, you probably realize that you need to switch gears before tackling a novel. After all, better to learn how to craft novelistic prose before diving into a 300-page venture. That’s where the short story comes in.

Short stories will teach you how to quickly and efficiently paint a scene, create a mood, craft dialogue, and mold fully realized characters who have an entire life in very few pages. These are all critical skills for writing prose.

Anyone can tell a story in 120 pages, but could you tell one in 5?

In This Four Week Program, You Will Learn:

  • Just what is a short story and what is it trying to accomplish?
    • Why write short stories?
    • The Ins and Outs of publication
    • How to put together a story and strip away nonsense
    • Writing, writing, and more writing: you will complete at least two short stories
    • The importance of revision
    • Getting an agent
