DUSTED by Guy McDouall has been named the winner and MURDER ME by David Luz has been selected as the Runner-up.
DUSTED follows a health care worker who discovers a supernatural force that is able to cure the terminal patients in the children’s ward at her local hospital, but not without deadly consequences. The dark horror thriller has been compared to Stephen King in tone.
Guy, who hails from New Zealand writes horrors and dark thrillers while exploring subject matter from fresh angles with an emphasis on the macabre. His short horror film FEEDER was directed by Oscar winner Christian Rivers. FEEDER played at multiple film festivals including Fantasia and was later released as part of the “MINUTES PAST MIDNIGHT” anthology feature.
Runner-up David Luz is an accomplished and versatile writer having placed atop a number of prestigious competitions including previously winning the top prize at the PAGE International Awards.
His script MURDER ME follows a depressed artist who after ordering a hit on himself, turns his entire life around and now must figure out how to stop the determined assassin from finishing the job.
David previously was a finalist at the Austin Film Festival, Script Pipeline, and even earned a Top 25 spot for his YA Fantasy Novel in the Tracking Board's Launch Pad Manuscript Contest. His low-budget indie film TINY LITTLE LIES, which he wrote and executive produced won the audience award at the Dances With Films Festival and was picked up for distribution by Vanguard Cinema. Faye Bender of the The Book Group represents Luz as an author, and Kathy Muraviov at The Muraviov Company manages the feature film and TV side of his career.
Rounding out the Top 5 were CHIMERA DARK by Nathan Wilcoxen, DEARLY DEPARTED by Stella Ruggiero and Heidi Dugan, and GAME THEORY by Jeff Tuttle.
