Weekend Box Office Top Ten - 3/10/19

Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

CAPTAIN MARVEL opened at #1 with an impressive $153M (Million) domestically, and $455M global launch. It is the third biggest March opener ever, and the seventh biggest debut for a Marvel Studios film. At a budget of $150M plus marketing, this film is profitable for Disney after just a single weekend, a stunning feat that sees the successful beginning of a new hero and franchise to the studio's pantheon.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD slid to #2 with $14.6M, a domestic total of $119.6M, and $435M worldwide and climbing. Produced for $129M plus marketing, this film is already nicely profitable for Dreamworks Animation and Universal, with more to be earned.

TYLER PERRY'S A MADEA FAMILY FUNERAL is #3 with $12M, and a total of $45.8M and rising. Produced for around $20-25M plus a modest marketing campaign, this will be profitable for Lionsgate as the final entry in the franchise.

THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART is #4 with $3.8M, a domestic total of $97.1M, and $164M worldwide. Produced for $100M plus marketing, this film is off sharply from the original, and will lose money for WB.

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL is #5 with $3.2M, a domestic total of $78.3M, and $382.6M worldwide as it quietly heads towards the $400M mark globally. Produced for $170M plus marketing, this film will essentially finish in break-even territory and find profitability in the home release market, leaving sequel possibilities a toss-up at this point.

GREEN BOOK held at #6 with $2.4M, a domestic total of $80M, and a terrific $242M worldwide, all on a budget of $23M plus marketing, as the film finishes its run for Universal as a massive success.

ISN'T IT ROMANTIC is #7 with $2.4M and a total now of $44M, with international yet to debut. Produced for around $30M plus marketing, the film will need to reach these same heights globally to be profitable for WB, but has performed to solid numbers domestically.

FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY is #8 with $2.1M and a total of $18.6M, a disappointing result for MGM as this one will lose money for the studio.

GRETA collapsed to #9 with $2.1M and a total of only $8.2M, meaning it will be a financial loss for Focus Features.

APOLLO 11 is #10 with $1.3M and a total of $3.7M for independent distributor Neon.

Next weekend will be ruled by Captain Marvel, Nick Fury, Goose and the gang once more, as the only wide-releases are animated kids film WONDER PARK, and young adult romantic drama FIVE FEET APART.
