Weekend Box Office Top Ten - 12/2/18

Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET is #1 with $25.7M, a domestic total of $119.2M, and an early $206.9M globally. Produced for $175M plus marketing, the film still has a long ways towards profitability, but should definitely be a nice hit for Disney as it plays through the holiday season in the U.S. and internationally.

DR. SEUSS' THE GRINCH climbed back to #2 with $17.7M, a domestic total now of $203.5M, and $268.3M globally. With a budget of $75M plus marketing, this Universal/Illumination hit is already nicely profitable, with more to be earned.

CREED II slid to #3 with $16.8M, a domestic total of $81.1M, and a very early $92.5M with much of international yet to debut. With a budget of $50M plus marketing, this MGM/New Line co-production will reach profitability in the next couple of weeks, continuing the winning streak of this franchise.

FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD is #4 with $11.2M, a domestic total of $134.3M, and a much better $519.6M worldwide. Produced for $200M, this WB film will be profitable for the studio, but not by nearly as much as the previous BEASTS or the POTTER franchise. A third film is already announced, and is expected to enter production soon.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY held at #5 with $8.1M, a domestic total of $164.4M, and a big global haul of $539.5M, more than 10X the film's production budget of $50M, making this tremendously profitable for Fox.

INSTANT FAMILY is #6 with $7.1M, and a total of $45.9M. With a budget of $48M plus marketing, this one is doing well holding on in the U.S., but will need to see a decent international run to reach profitability for Paramount.

THE POSSESSION OF HANNAH GRACE opened at #7 with $6.5M, above where tracking had it, and a nice opening when considering the film's budget of $6M plus a modest marketing spend by Sony/Screen Gems. This one will be solidly profitable for the studio.

ROBIN HOOD is #8 with $4.7M, a domestic total of only $21.7M, and just $48M worldwide. Produced for $100M plus marketing, this film will be a sharp loss for all involved.

WIDOWS fell to #9 with $4.4M, a domestic total of $33M, and $53M worldwide. With a budget of $42M plus marketing, this will be a moderate financial loss for Fox, despite strong critical and audience response.

GREEN BOOK is #10 with $3.9M, and a total of only $14M. Produced for $23M plus marketing, this will be a loss for Universal. 

Next week sees no new wide studio releases, and will be a quiet weekend ahead of a busy holiday launch starting on the 14th, lead by Sony's SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE.
